Marks & Spencer has begun recruiting for its new fully automated fashion distribution centre in Lichfield, ahead of its planned opening in 2027.

More than 70 vacancies are now available through the M&S Careers website, including management, operational and specialist roles. The 437,000 sq ft logistics warehouse is expected to employ 600 people in total when fully operational.

The new hub will add capacity to M&S’s existing 24-hour distribution network, allowing the retailer to process and move orders more quickly from suppliers to distribution centres, stores and online customers.

M&S is aiming to double online Fashion, Home and Beauty sales, with supply chain transformation playing a central role in its plans for growth.

The retailer announced a conditional £67.5 million deal to acquire the former ASOS distribution centre in May, as part of its wider supply chain transformation. The investment is intended to improve product availability, increase fulfilment capacity and enable customers to order later in the day, with more sizes and styles available.

David James, Supply Chain and Logistics Director for Fashion, Home & Beauty at M&S, said: “Our new Lichfield hub will mean we can better serve our customers, delivering M&S fashion faster than ever before. As we get closer to launch, building the right team is crucial.

“From Planners to Team Managers and Technicians, in our first phase of recruitment we’re looking for those who enjoy the fast pace of logistics and are keen to play a role in our exciting transformation journey. We’ll recruit for more roles in the coming months as we gear up to launch.”

M&S is also investing in a new 15,800 sq ft food store at St John’s Grange in Lichfield, which is due to open in March 2027 and create a further 70 local jobs.
