Morrisons is piloting Click & Collect lockers, as the supermarket looks to make online grocery collections faster and more flexible.
The retailer has partnered with StrongPoint to introduce temperature-controlled lockers capable of holding ambient, chilled and frozen groceries. All Click & Collect orders will be fulfilled through the lockers during the pilot at its Skipton, North Yorkshire store, including same-day orders.
The system removes the need for customers to park in a collection bay, notify a colleague and wait for their shopping to be brought to their car. Morrisons said the technology will also extend Click & Collect operating hours at the store by two hours a day, increasing the number of collection slots available.
Larger lockers can hold up to three bags of shopping, while smaller chilled and frozen compartments can accommodate one or two bags. For larger orders, multiple locker doors can be allocated to the same customer.
Morrisons has also integrated VoCoVo technology into the lockers, allowing customers to use a help button to connect directly with store colleagues. For orders containing age-restricted products, the relevant compartment remains locked until a colleague has completed an ID check.
Charlotte Exell, Group Online Director at Morrisons, said:
“We know customers want Click & Collect to be quick, convenient and flexible, and our new locker solution is designed to be exactly that. By bringing StrongPoint’s proven technology to our stores, we can offer more collection slots while removing the wait for colleagues to bring orders to customers’ cars.”
The Skipton store was selected for the pilot because it has a high volume of Click & Collect orders and offers Morrisons’ full online grocery range.
