Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Contentful, the composable content platform used by more than 4,800 brands globally, in a move that signals the growing importance of content infrastructure in the AI era.
The deal will see Contentful integrated into Salesforce’s Customer 360 platform, creating a native content layer designed to help businesses deliver personalised experiences across marketing, commerce, sales and service channels.
Why it matters
As businesses invest heavily in AI, the focus is shifting beyond customer data and automation towards the content that powers those experiences.
Salesforce believes combining Contentful’s headless content management capabilities with its own Data 360 platform and Agentforce AI agents will allow brands to dynamically assemble and deliver personalised experiences in real time.
Rather than creating and publishing content separately for websites, apps, emails and other channels, businesses will be able to manage structured content centrally and allow AI systems to adapt it based on customer context, language, channel and business rules.
The rise of AI-powered content orchestration
The acquisition reflects a wider trend across commerce and customer experience technology.
Retailers, hospitality operators and brands are increasingly looking for ways to move away from static content management towards more flexible systems that can support AI-driven personalisation at scale.
Salesforce says the combination of Agentforce and Contentful will enable enterprises to create a single content layer across digital touchpoints, helping reduce duplication, improve consistency and accelerate time-to-market.
For organisations investing in AI-powered customer experiences, content is becoming as important as data. The acquisition highlights how technology vendors are racing to connect the two.
What Salesforce and Contentful said
Jujhar Singh, President of Customer 360 Applications & Industries at Salesforce, said:
Every meaningful customer interaction depends on three things working together: the right data, the right AI-driven content, and a modern, effortless experience.
With Contentful, we complete that picture by adding a native, headless, composable content layer that lets Agentforce dynamically assemble and deliver personalised experiences across every channel, at the speed and scale the AI era demands.
Contentful CEO Karthik Rau added:
Together, we will redefine how brands interact with customers by giving Agentforce the content layer it needs to make every interaction truly engaging.
Our API-first architecture and deep domain expertise fit perfectly into the Salesforce stack. Together, we will redefine how brands interact with customers by giving Agentforce the content layer it needs to make every interaction truly engaging.
What’s next?
The transaction is expected to close during Salesforce’s third quarter of fiscal year 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
